The first plasma television that was released in the market was a whopping $12,000. It was 42 inches and during that time, that kind of technology was still a baby. Although LCD televisions were already giving quality images, they were smaller, about 32 inches. Quite a big difference from the 42 inches version of the plasma TV. When there are other manufacturers who went into the market and competition started, prices started to rocket down.

Usually, when a new product is introduced to the market, it is quite pricey for the reason that the manufacturer wants to get back some costs. Since they are also the first to launch such new technology, they can get their investment back. However, their prices cannot remain as high as it first was. They have to mark down if they do not want to end up at the bottom of the ranks.
When manufacturers of LCD technology started to develop screens as large as that of the plasma televisions, plasma TV prices started to drop due to the competition and the less cost of manufacturing.

Not every plasma is the same. There are still differences among the different models of plasma TV. This will confuse the buyers as to why there is a big difference between two plasma televisions since they believe that the plasma TVs are all HD.

With regard to the resolution of plasma televisions, two kinds of technologies are involved. These are true high definition and enhanced definition. If your plasma television is enhanced definition, then it is most likely that you will not notice the difference in the picture quality if the broadcast is not in a high definition format. The difference that is likely to be eye catching will be the price of the plasma television which utilizes high definition technology.

High definition means that a television has a height of 720 pixels. However, this might cause a difference since there are plasma televisions which are 1040 to 1365 wide. Larger monitors normally have a wider pixel count for a true HD resolution.

If an image is in the high definition format, and it is broadcast in a high definition monitor, the images will look better. But if the image of lesser quality is displayed in a high definition monitor, it will not make that particular image look better.
